North Korea unveiled its latest military capabilities at the opening of the Defence Revolution Museum, where leader Kim Jong Un inspected an array of advanced weapons alongside his wife, Ri Sol Ju, and daughter, Ju Ae, on October 11, 2026.
Photographs released by state news agency KCNA on October 13 showed the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile alongside drones and other weapons developed under Kim’s leadership.
The Hwasong-20 was first unveiled during a military parade in October 2025 and is a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile designed to carry strategic weapons over long distances.
Reuters cited Shin Jong-woo, secretary-general of the Korea Defence and Security Forum, who said a display beside the missile’s launcher appeared to show a multiple-warhead configuration and a world map illustrating potential ranges extending beyond the US mainland to the Middle East, Australia and South America.
However, North Korea has not publicly demonstrated the missile’s full operational capabilities through a complete flight test.
Shin suggested that the exhibition also aimed to strengthen Pyongyang’s position ahead of possible negotiations with Washington.
