Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has praised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for conducting what he described as a transparent and credible presidential screening exercise.

Obi made the remarks while addressing newsmen after appearing before the NDC screening committee, chaired by former Ebonyi State governor, Sam Egwu.

According to Obi, the screening process demonstrated true democratic principles and accountability within the party.

“This is democracy in action because the NDC has chosen to do things properly. If a screening process is announced, it should be conducted thoroughly and transparently,” he said.

He added that Nigerians deserve to know whether presidential aspirants meet all constitutional requirements and can provide valid documents to support their claims.

“The people want assurance that candidates are qualified and truthful in their declarations.

“They also want to see commitment toward building a united, secure, and prosperous Nigeria. That is why the screening lasted for more than two hours,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra State Governor noted that such processes help strengthen confidence in the democratic system and promote accountability among political leaders.
