The Senegalese national team on Sunday, 18th January, 2025 defeated hosts Morocco 1-0 in extra time to claim the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON).
The victory by Senegal, sent thousands of Moroccans into uncontrollable tears, as Skipper Hakimi and his teammates broke down publicly, while the fans were seen crying at the heavily packed stands.
Gueye netted the decisive goal in the first half of the extra time, following an earlier walkout protest when the referee awarded a last minute penalty for the hosts.
The controversial penalty was perfectly gathered by goalkeeper Mendhi, forcing the tension soaked encounter into extra time.
