Senegal Beat Morocco To Lift Second AFCON Trophy Ever

The Senegalese team, who won their first African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in 2021, on Sunday 18th January 2026, lifted their second ever trophy, after defeating hosts of the 2025 edition 1-0 in gruelling final encounter.

The closing ceremony began with the silver medal presentation to the Hakimi-led Moroccan side, before Sadio Mane and his compatriots mounted the podium for their gold medals… and then receiving the ultimate prize; AFCON Gold as champions of the tournament.

Substitute Captain Couliballi, who was injured during their Semi Final, received the coveted trophy from FIFA President Infantino assisted by CAF Boss Motsepe on the night.

Back home in Nigeria, football fans such as Ola Jacobs (OJay) and OG, amongst the others watched the game in Lagos till the end, despite the extra time that delayed till late night on Sunday.
