I Rejected A Role To Sleep With Dog –Nkechi

Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about a shocking early experience in her acting journey, revealing she once turned down her first-ever movie audition after being handed a script that required her to perform a sex scene with a dog.

Speaking on the *Honest Bunch Podcast*, Blessing recounted walking into an audition organised by producer Aremu Zimba at a time when she was still unknown and desperate for a breakthrough in the Nigerian film industry.

However, her excitement quickly faded after reading the storyline.

According to her, the script demanded she play a character involved in bestiality, a direction she said was completely unacceptable and damaging—not just personally, but professionally.

“When he gave me the script, I had never acted before. In the script I was supposed to sleep with a dog,” she recalled. “I told him, ‘Sir, I have sense. I cannot start my career like this.’ Imagine the first time people ever see me on screen, that’s what they remember. It would become a tag.”

Blessing said she immediately rejected the role and dropped the script. Surprisingly, her refusal sparked intense interest from other aspiring actresses at the audition.

“The moment I threw the script on the floor, so many girls rushed to grab it,” she said, expressing disbelief at how far some were willing to go for fame.

Today, looking back, Blessing believes the decision shaped her career path—protecting her image, morals, and future roles.

She noted that none of the actresses who reportedly accepted the role went on to become recognisable names in Nollywood, adding that newcomers must be intentional about the kinds of roles they accept, especially at the beginning of their careers.

“You just need to know what you want for yourself,” she advised. “How you start matters. If you start wrong, the industry will tag you forever.”
