Imo Police Arrest Officers Linked To Cultism

Three police officers from the Imo State Police Command, who were identified in a cult related viral video displaying unprofessional conduct, have been arrested.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Aboki Danjuma, had directed an investigation into the video, the identification of officers, their arrest, and the commencement of an orderly room trial.

A statement issued around 6.48 p.m. on Saturday (today) by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, disclosed that the three officers had been arrested, adding that an orderly room trial would commence on Monday.

The statement read: “Further to the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, ordering a thorough investigation into the viral video showing officers engaged in unprofessional conduct, the Command wishes to provide the following update.
“The officers captured in the viral video have been identified as:
“Inspector Obinna Peter (AP/No. 346264); Corporal Amaechi Augustine (F/No. 528171); Corporal Ejikeme Victor (F/No. 528279).”

The statement stressed that the Policeman had been consigned to detention, while a thorough investigation was going on to ascertain their level of involvement in cultism and other related activities.
“The officers have been arrested and are presently in detention while the command has commenced a thorough investigation into their alleged involvement in cultism and other related activities. Consequently, an Orderly Room Trial has been scheduled to commence on Monday.
“The Imo State Police Command reiterates that the conduct displayed in the viral video is highly unprofessional and does not reflect the discipline, ethics, and values of the Nigeria Police Force,” Okoye informed.

Continuing, Okoye, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), promised to unearth the outcome of the trial in line with the tenets of the statutory mandate of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing, “The outcome of the Orderly Room Trial will be communicated to the public in due course, as the Command remains committed to upholding professionalism, accountability, and transparency in the discharge of its duties.”

Coup Rumours In Nigeria Sparks Public Outrage

0

Report of an alleged plot by some military personnel to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration have triggered outrage among Nigerians, with senior lawyers, civil society groups and retired generals warning against any attempt to subvert democracy.

The Defence Headquarters also dismissed the reports, saying there was no coup-related detention or plan within the military.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said the Armed Forces were unaware of any coup plot.

He also claimed that no new update had been issued since the earlier statement on the arrest of some officers.

“I am not aware that people were detained for a coup. We didn’t issue any new statement on the 16 people we said were detained. What we issued is what we issued, and there’s no update on that. If there’s one, we will let the public know,” Gusau said.

In the October 4 statement referenced, Gusau had explained that the 16 officers were arrested for breaching military regulations and acts of indiscipline.

“Investigations have revealed that their grievances stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation caused by repeated failure in promotion examinations,” the statement read in part.

Arsenal Back On Top As Trossard’s Goal Sinks ‘Stubborn’ Fulham

0

Leandro Trossard’s second-half goal was enough for Arsenal to overcome a stubborn Fulham and move three points clear at the top of the English Premier League.

Mikel Arteta came into the Saturday match without captain Martin Odegaard and named Eberechi Eze in his place as the manager looked to make the most of the attacking talent at his disposal.

However, it was the home side who started brightest and Fulham went close through Harry Wilson and Josh King, who had an effort tipped over the bar by David Raya.

Arsenal grew into the game and Riccardo Calafiori had an excellently worked goal ruled out for offside.

The Gunners started the second half with more intensity and pinned Fulham back for large parts.

That pressure told in the 58th minute when centre-back Gabriel flicked on a Bukayo Saka corner and Trossard was well positioned to fire home from close range at the back post.

Saka thought he had won a penalty to give Arsenal the chance to double their lead, but the decision was overturned by the video assistant referee (VAR).

The victory means Arsenal move three points clear of second-placed Manchester City – who were top for a couple of hours on Saturday after beating Everton – with Liverpool four behind in third. Arne Slot’s side host Manchester United on Sunday (16:30 BST).

.In World Cup Qualifier –

Nigeria’s talisman, Victor Osimhen says the country’s 4-0 drubbing of Benin Republic in the FIFA World Cup qualifying match was superb and relishing.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic 4-0 in the decisive 2026 World Cup qualification at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

In the said encounter, Osimhen’s hat-trick and second-half goal from substitute Frank Onyeka gave Nigeria three points against Benin in its quest to qualify for the World Cup.

Although the goals were not enough to give Nigeria a straight qualification ticket, as leaders, South Africa secured three points by beating Rwanda 3-0, qualifying for the World Cup tournament in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.

But, the Nigerian side qualified for the next stage of qualifiers, where they will confront Gabon, Cameroon and another African team in the  CAF playoffs.

Meanwhile, Ndidi led the Eagles as skipper, Osimhen partners with Akor Adams up front with Chukwueze supplying killer passes that wreck havoc on Benin.

.Aircraft Forced To Land Due To Cracked Windscreen –

A report from Idungafa Dick, says the Super Eagles’ journey to Uyo for their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic was disrupted when their chartered ValueJet aircraft suffered a cracked windscreen shortly after departing Luanda.

The team had stopped to refuel in Luanda, Angola, after departing from Polokwane, South Africa.
The pilot effectively managed the situation, ensuring the plane’s safe return to Luanda Airport, and all passengers were safe.
As at last night, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was arranging for an alternative aircraft from Lagos to transport the delegation from Luanda to Uyo.
The incident has delayed the Super Eagles’ arrival for their crucial match against Benin Republic, which will determine their progression to the next stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

FG Gives Institutions Deadline To Use Education Funds

0

The Federal Government has directed all tertiary institutions to fully utilise unaccessed and unspent education intervention funds within 30 days, warning that the era of idle allocations “is over.”

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, issued the directive during a strategic meeting with Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, Bursars, and Procurement Officers in Abuja.

He described the failure to use allocated funds as a “setback to national progress,” stressing that institutions must submit reconciled reports of unutilised funds within the stipulated timeframe.

“This meeting is not for blame games but to move forward collectively,” the Minister said, adding, “Resources that could have been used to transform our classrooms, laboratories, and libraries have remained idle for years due to bureaucratic bottlenecks. That must change now.”

The Minister warned that any unspent funds would be redirected to priority projects, adding that “carrying them over without strong justification will no longer be allowed.”

Expressing concern over large sums of money lying dormant in the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Alausa stated that “such negligence denies students access to improved learning facilities and limits institutional growth.”

To ensure accountability, the Ministry will launch a public transparency dashboard to display TETFund disbursement and utilisation data. “Every TETFund naira represents public trust,” he said. “We owe it to Nigerians to ensure these resources are spent efficiently and visibly.”

I’m Not Dying, Says Dolly Parton

0

Dolly Parton has said that she’s fine and “not dying.”

An odd thing to have to say, yes. But the country music icon, actress, activist and humanitarian posted a video to social media on Wednesday to clear up rumors that had been going around to the contrary.

“I wanted to say, I know lately everybody thinks that I’m sicker than I am,” Parton, 79, said in the video from a set where she was filming a commercial for the Grand Ole Opry. “Do I look sick to you? I’m workin’ hard here.”

Dressed in a red and black fringe top, the “9 to 5” star added that she “wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease” because many seemed “real concerned, which I appreciate.”

“And I appreciate your prayers because I’m a person of faith. I can always use the prayers for anything and everything, but I want you to know that I’m ok,” she added in the video, which was captioned “I ain’t dead yet!”

Parton went on to acknowledge that she’s had “some problems” health-wise, which she had mentioned last month when she canceled a series of December concerts in Las Vegas. She then elaborated on the reasons behind those issues.

“Back when my husband Carl was very sick – that was for a long time – and then when he passed, I didn’t take care of myself,” she said.

“So I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of. So, anyway, when I got around to it, the doctor said ‘We need to take care of this, we need to take care of that.’ Nothing major, but I did have to cancel some things so I could be closer to home.”

Security Officials Set To Fly With $6m Arrested At Lagos Airport

0

Security operatives attempting to board a flight with over $6.1 million in cash were intercepted and arrested on Saturday at the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 in Lagos.

The suspects, whose exact number was not disclosed, were reportedly caught during routine checks while trying to board an Aero Contractors flight.

Sources who pleaded anonymity to prevent official sanctions at the airport because they were not empowered to speak on the matter, confirm that the passengers were found with multiple boxes loaded with undeclared U.S dollars.

It was gathered via punchonline that the personnel had initially passed through airport security units before they were apprehended at the foot of the aircraft after Aero Contractors security noticed the heavy luggage.

The matter was then escalated and was reported to Aviation Security, who later handed it over to the Department of State Services.

A senior FAAN official who spoke under the condition of anonymity said the DSS later transferred the suspects to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, where they are currently being held for further investigation.

It was also gathered that the suspects had claimed to be security agents escorting a suspect and exhibits, but failed to declare the cash or follow due procedures for transporting suspects on commercial flights.

Meanwhile, the source said this claim may have helped the suspects bypass the initial security screening. However, their activities raised suspicion at the boarding gate when AVSEC officers noticed the oversized boxes.

FIFA World Cup: Nigeria, Benin Stars Arrive Uyo For Big Showdown

0

The delegations of Nigeria and Benin Republic are scheduled to arrive in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital on Saturday afternoon, ahead of Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Series Matchday 10 encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles earned a 2-1 win over Lesotho in Polokwane on Friday to put themselves firmly in contention for the lone automatic ticket from Group C, while table-topping Benin Republic scored late against Rwanda’s Amavubi in Kigali to pick up the maximum points and maintain their three-point lead on their West African neighbours.

Three-time African champions Nigeria fly from the South African city of Polokwane to Uyo aboard a chartered ValueJet Airline airplane, just as the Cheetahs’ delegation will arrive about the same time at the Obong Victor Attah International Airport.

Goals by Captain William Ekong (from the penalty spot) and debutant Jerome Akor Adams earned Nigeria the three points at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, and the Super Eagles, 2024 AFCON runners-up, now need a two-goal win over the neighbours to the west (plus South Africa failing to beat Rwanda in Nelspruit on the same day) to bag the only automatic ticket from Group C to North America.

The circumstances are much like they were in 2001 and 2009. On both occasions, Nigeria eventually scaled through to the global finals.

After away losses to Liberia and Sierra Leone, the Super Eagles were in a precarious situation and needed to win their three remaining matches. They started with a 2-0 defeat of leaders Liberia in Port Harcourt, made easy meat of Sudan 4-0 in Omdurman and then trounced Ghana’s Black Stars 3-0 in Port Harcourt to qualify for Korea/Japan 2002.

In 2009, Tunisia led for most of the series, and only an added-time goal by Obinna Nsofor against Mozambique in Abuja kept Nigeria in the hunt until the final day. On that final day, Nigeria needed to beat Kenya in Nairobi and for Tunisia not to win in Maputo against Mozambique. The Eagles edged the Harambee Stars 3-2 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani while Mozambique earned a late goal against Tunisia.

The ambitious Cheetahs, now on 17 points, are coached by Franco-German tactician Gernot Rohr, who qualified and led Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.

Egyptian official Amin Mohamed Omar will be referee for Tuesday’s explosive battle, with his compatriots Mahmoud Abouelregal, Ahmed Tawfik Ali and Mahmoud Moustafa Elbana in the roles of assistant referee 1, assistant referee 2 and fourth official.

Jason Joseph Damoo from Seychelles will serve as referee assessor; Ghanaian Prosper Harrison Addo will be the commissioner and; Xolile Vilakati from eSwatini will work as security officer.
