The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Saliu Danladi, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state.
Reports say Danladi polled over 94,000 votes to defeat 14 others who contested the primary election conducted on Friday, 22nd May, 2026, and emerge as the APC governorship candidate in Kwara State for the 2027 elections.
The primary election was previously scheduled for Thursday, but was abruptly rescheduled for Friday with the APC leadership citing logistics reason.
The state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, had earlier reversed his choice of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki and announced the Speaker as his preferred successor.
Danladi, who hails from Kwara North, contested the APC primary against the governor’s earlier choice and other aspirants and was declared the winner by the chairman of the primary election committee, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
Danladi polled 94,990 votes to beat his closest challenger, Amb. Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, who got 41,700 votes, and Dr Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, who polled 22,118.
The results for the other candidates are Engr. Femi Sani 5,519; Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe 3,920; Bello Belgore 3,411; Mohamed Bio 1,122; Dr. Alabi Oluwatoyin, 1,099; Prof. Wale Suleiman, 2,434; and Prof. Abubakar Suleiman, 1,722.
