Nigeria’s contingent to the 2026 Commonwealth Games grabbed a total of 24 medals to finish the Games in Glasgow as Africa’s highest-ranked nation, placing seventh on the final medals table with 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals.

Team Nigeria fell short of its performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where it won 35 medals.

The Glasgow haul of 24 medals represents a decline of 11 medals from Birmingham, while the country’s 10 gold medals were also two fewer than the 12 gold medals it secured four years ago.

Australia topped the medals table with a dominant 70 gold medals, finishing ahead of England and Canada. Nigeria, however, placed above established sporting nations such as Jamaica, Wales, Malaysia and South Africa.

The final standings also reflected Africa’s growing influence at the Commonwealth Games, with 13 African countries winning at least one medal.

Behind Nigeria, South Africa finished 11th with seven gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze medals, while Kenya placed 13th with three gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

Mauritius ended the Games in 15th place with one gold, two silver and one bronze medal, while Cameroon finished 16th with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
