Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) came from a goal down to beat Arsenal on penalties in the final of the UEFA Champions League on Saturday night.

The tension-soaked match was played at Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, where Kai Havertz gave the Gunners the lead quite early in the match, but PSG pulled level in the second half with the match finishing 1-1 after extra time.

It would be recalled that PSG lifted the Champions League for the first time last season when they beat Inter Milan in the final but Arsenal have never won the competition, although they were runners-up to Barcelona in 2007.

The French champions sealed their fifth consecutive league title this season, while Arsenal have just won their first Premier League crown in 22 years.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice described the loss as: “Very devastating to lose a Champions League final on penalties.

“I’m Just trying to take perspective on how far we have come. It is our 63rd game in all competitions this season. We gave it everything, so just reflecting on a great season.

“You can win or lose games on penalties. Some of the best teams ever have lost. So proud of this group and boys. Can’t speak highly enough about everyone.”

“It has been an incredible journey this season. They [Gabriel and Eberechi Eze] are devastated. To miss a penalty in a Champions like this isn’t palatable. Sad,” Rice said.
